The Chart of Your Real (Divine) Self — One Truth, Many Paths

Every religion teaches that there is a Divine Power within each one of us — a higher reality beyond the physical world. Whether you call it Brahman, Atman, Waheguru, Buddha Nature, Ahura Mazda, or Christ Consciousness — the message is the same: God lives within you. The Chart of Your Real (Divine) Self beautifully represents this universal truth found in Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, and Christianity.

This chart is divided into three parts — the Upper, Middle, and Lower figures — symbolizing the journey of the soul. The Upper Figure represents the Supreme God or “I AM Presence” — the source of all life and divine energy. The Middle Figure symbolizes your Higher Self, Inner Guide, or Guru — always leading and protecting you. The Lower Figure represents you — the soul on earth, learning, evolving, and striving to reconnect with the Divine.

Though names, practices, and languages may differ — the spiritual journey of every human being is the same: To rise in consciousness, embody divine qualities, and unite with the Supreme Self within.

Hindus – The Chart of Your Real (Divine) Self

The upper figure: The upper figure is known as the individualized presence of God as “I AM Presence” or Paramatman. This is the part of you which is immortal. It is surrounded by seven concentric spheres of light that make up your causal body (i.e., body of the first cause). These spheres of pulsating light are spiritual energy-fields that contain the treasures of one’s good karma of this and previous lives. Shown in the centre of the seven concentric spheres is the Holy Presence of God through the symbol of OM.

The middle figure: The middle figure is known as the Atman, the Higher Self, the Higher Mental Body, or the Vishnu /Krishna Consciousness serving as a mediator or a step-down transformer to regulate the flow of energy between the top figure and the lower figure. In this illustration, the middle figure is depicted in the person of Lord Vishnu — the second person of the Hindu Trinity — the preserver or regulator of light. This is also a part of you which is immortal.

The lower figure: The lower figure represents you (Jiva or Jiva-atman) on the spiritual path, surrounded by the protective white light and the purifying violet flame, the spiritual energy of transmutation represented by Lord Shiva, the third person of the Hindu Trinity that transforms the negative energy into positive energy. The shaft of white light descending from the heart of the upper figure to the lower figure is the crystal cord, which ties you to Spirit and nourishes your divine spark or the threefold flame in the heart. The Katha Upanishad speaks of the divine spark as the “Light of the Spirit” that is connected in the “secret high place of the heart.” The three colours of the threefold flame represents the presence of Lord Brahma (blue plume), Lord Vishnu (yellow plume) and Lord Shiva (pink plume) in the secret chamber of the heart. This part of you is your soul which remains in a mortal state until it reunites permanently with the Atman. At that point, the soul becomes immortal.

Sikhs – The Chart of Your Real (Divine) Self

Upper Figure: The upper figure depicts your individualized God-Self also known as Wahe-Guru, Nirankar, Sat-Kartar or Paramatman. It is surrounded by seven concentric spheres of light composed of the divine virtues, known as (Guru ke Mahal or “Mansions of Guru”) which contain treasures of good works (Khatti or savings) from this and previous incarnations. Shown in the centre of the seven concentric spheres is the Holy Presence of God through the Sikh Holy symbol of Ek onkar.

Middle Figure: The middle figure represents your Pure Self (Khalsa-Self), Atman, Nam or Satnam. In this illustration, the Pure Self is depicted as Guru Nanak, the Sadguru (True Guru), for everyone has the potential to embody the virtues, attributes and consciousness of Guru Nanak. The heart contains a secret chamber called Sach-Khand (spiritual body of Truth) which is the abode of Atman. This part of yourself is also immortal and permanent.

Lower Figure: The lower figure is you (soul, Jeev-atman) on the spiritual evolving path, surrounded by the protective white (pure) light and the transforming violet flame, the spiritual energy that transmutes the negative karma created by the Jeev-atman into positive energy. The shaft of white light descending from the heart of the upper figure to the lower figure is the crystal cord that is like a thread of light which ties you to the Spirit and nourishes you through the divine spark of light, the threefold flame (called Jyot or Parkash), within. Until the Jeev-atman is permanently bonded with the Atman, she remains mortal and is perishable.

Your I AM Presence is surrounded by seven concentric spheres of spiritual energy that make up what is called your “causal body.” These spheres of pulsating energy contain the record of the good works you have performed since your first incarnation on earth. In other words, they are like your cumulative cosmic bank account. Shown in the centre of the seven concentric spheres is the Holy Presence of God as I AM.

The middle figure: The middle figure represents the Holy Christ Self, the Son, the Word, the Bridegroom, or the Anointed One as demonstrated by Jesus the Christ over 2000 years ago. It is also called your guardian angel, Silent Watcher, Lamb of God, the Branch, Inner Man of the Heart, the voice of conscience and your inner teacher, whose divine attributes everyone has the potential to embody in this life. It is also a permanent part of the individualized identity of you as a Son of God.

The shaft of white light descending from the I AM Presence through the Holy Christ Self to the lower figure in the Chart is the crystal cord (sometimes called the silver cord). It is the “umbilical cord” the life line, that ties you to Spirit. Your crystal cord also nourishes that special, radiant flame of God that is ensconced in the secret chamber of your heart. It is called the threefold flame, or divine spark, because it is literally a spark of sacred fire that God has transmitted from his heart to yours. This flame is called “threefold” because it engenders the primary attributes of Spirit – power, wisdom and love.
